Decolonizing the Dance Weekend Workshop

Degender Dance’s Decolonizing the Dance Weekend Workshop brings awareness of harmful aspects often found at dance weekends and teaches dancers how they can dismantle and decolonize them. Hustle culture, cultural appropriation, social hierarchies and rigid gender binaries are often a given at a dance weekend, but they don’t have to be!

Offer this workshop at the beginning of your weekender, camp, or congress to dismantle and heal problematic dynamics from the get go. With guided group discussions, rich and playful connection exercises and lots of social dancing and experimentation to transform dancers and the weekend vibe, this workshop is super fun and impactful.

Workplace Trainings

Team Building Through Embodiment

This training uses simple movement-based activities and embodied practices to strengthen team connection, communication, trust, and collaboration. Designed for people with no dance or movement background, the workshop offers accessible and engaging exercises that help participants develop greater awareness of themselves, their colleagues, and how they work together.

Activities include blindfolded trust drills, mirroring exercises, basic partner dance connection that anyone can participate in, and movement to music with a focus on feeling, rhythm, and groove rather than performance. Interactive games and team play offered in this workshop, encourage active listening, adaptability, empathy and collective problem-solving.

Through shared experiences that go beyond verbal communication, participants build stronger relationships, increase confidence, and develop a deeper sense of team cohesion in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Gender Equity in Community

Facilitated by two genderqueer dancers, this interactive training explores gender inclusivity in the workplace community. Participants will learn about expansive genders, why the gender binary is a social construct, how to use pronouns and why they matter, and ways to make everyday language more gender-inclusive.

Through discussion groups, games, and movement-based activities, participants will explore how gender shapes us and our relationships and workplace culture. Interactive dance and embodiment exercises help bring these concepts into a lived experience with one another.

This workshop is designed to be accessible, engaging, and practical. Participants leave with tools for fostering more inclusive environments and greater confidence in supporting people of all gender identities.
